New To Me Indie: Parallax Polish - Assortment

Hello lovelies!

I've been meaning to get this review up for you guys but between the New Year, my phone issues, and being sick, I had to push it back. Until now. Seriously, I'm excited to show you guys these polishes and hopefully introduce you to a new (to me) indie brand! Welcome Parallax Polish!

*All swatches shown with one coat of HK Girl

I'll be sharing Erin's (the maker) descriptions of each polish in italics, because I think the inspirations behind these polishes are really interesting. Erin says that she wants to make science fun with her polish and I think these have succeeded!

First up is Neon, from the Noble Gases collection!

"A set of neon glitters in a clear base. Neon is named after the Greek word for new and is used in advertising signs and lasers! Neon is the fourth abundant element in the universe."

I'm showing you guys one coat of Neon over two coats of Julep's Nic. Neon is filled with a bunch of square and hex shaped, neon glitters. I did find the formula a little difficult to work with, and had to apply the glitter by dabbing the polish on my nail and pushing the glitters to where I wanted them. This also required some fishing for glitter, and the base is tinged a slight yellow. I've talked to Erin and she's working with her polish base to see if there is a bleeding glitter issue or if its just the base. She is also going to add more glitter to the mix to cut down on the fishing. Regardless, I do think this polish is a good interpretation of its inspiration!

I've included direct light "macros" in the post as well!

Next up is Marilee, from the Doom Lab collection!

"A holographic, purple polish with an orange shine. Marilee is a DOOM lab graduate who is currently an academic advisor at the University of Kansas. Marilee's research interests lie in understanding best practices for advising."

I'm showing you guys three coats of Marilee. I probably could have gotten away with two coats but I think the third helped deepen the color. This polish has a linear holographic sparkle to it along with a slight duochrome shift. I didn't find the shift to be super strong but if you layered this over black, it might become more apparent. I found this polish is be really pretty and the formula was really great to work with too!

Last up is Geocentricity, from the Controversial Ideas collection!

"A green, yellow thermal polish with topaz glitter. Geocentricity is the name for a theory that the Earth is the center of the universe versus heliocentrism, wherein the planets revolve around the Sun. Copernicus proposed the first complete heliocentric model supporting Galileo's telescopic observations."

Geocentricity took three coats to reach this opacity. The polish is the green shade while cold and a yellow shade while warm. I think this is such an interesting polish! The colors are something that you don't see everyday and I really enjoy that. The formula of this is more jelly-like and can apply a little unevenly if you aren't careful. I also found that it wanted to pull away from my tips a bit, so make sure to wrap the ends of your nails.

Here's the polish in the cold state:

I think this is a really fun brand! While reading over the different polish inspirations, I could remember learning about some of the topics back in high school and it made me feel a little nostalgic. I used to like science in high school but then decided to go to college for design, I was kind of shocked I still remembered some of the stuff haha. I think Erin is definitely on to something with wanting to being science and art together through her polishes. I also really enjoyed that she took my feedback about Neon and is looking into the polish to make it better, I'm confident that her customer service is on par as well!

Parallax Polish currently has four collections available in her store at the moment. The Women In Science and The Noble Gases collection (Neon) retail at $8 for a 14mL bottle and $3 for a 5mL mini. The DOOM Lab collection (Marilee) and the Controversial Ideas in Science collection (Geocentricity) retail at $10 for a 14mL bottle and $4 for a 5mL mini. Each collection is also offered in a completed set listing for a bit of a discount. Here are some of her links if you'd like to check out more:

I hope you guys enjoyed this review! Thanks for reading!
